One powerful way to get more customers from your website

Get more customers from your website Learn one powerful way to get more customers out of your website.  Hint: professional advertisers use this to get 100-300% more website customers.

Imagine you are back in high school.  Now, don’t imagine for too long.  Some, including myself, would spiral down into a moody depression.

Get more customers from your websiteBut, for the sake of this illustration, stay with me for a moment.  You are taking a really hard chemistry test.  That is the bad news.  When you get your test back, it is marked up with a lot of red, and you receive a 66.

Not good.

Wouldn’t This Have Been Nice?

But, here is the good news:  what if the teacher says, “go ahead and take the same test again.”  Get more customers from your websiteChances are you would get a better score, right?  What if the teacher hands back your test the second time and says, “go ahead and take it a third time”… or a fourth…?

You would likely keep getting a better score each time because you would figure out what the right answers were.  Only God wouldn’t need to do it this way to get a great grade… because he already knows all the right answers.

That, in a nutshell, is one of the awesome advantages to using advertising online.  You have the opportunity to try different things, measure the response rates, and make adjustments (or try something else).

For example, on your website, what is most prized by your customers?

    • Free shipping?
    • Money back guarantee?
    • Fast service?
    • Expertise and certifications?
    • Largest selection in the southeast?

The reality is you don’t really know… at least at first.  But, you give it your best guess and start running website traffic by two website pages that alternate being shown to searchers.  Suddenly, it becomes clear:  they are most interesting in fast service, not your expertise (they assume it).

Surprising Results

For a pest control client of ours, we tested two different appeals for their termite business—affordability/value (if you get our termite treatment, you also get a free year of pest control) or a guarantee (you will never, ever have termites again).

In fact, both elements were a part of what was offered.  But, in one test we put our left foot forward (so to speak) and in the other we put our right foot forward.  One element was higher and more prominent on their web page, depending it was test A or B.

The result?  We thought, because of the economy, the value offer was going to be the winner.  Wrong.  People liked the ‘peace of mind’ aspect of knowing their home would be protected… with no risk for the future.  More surprisingly, the results were not even close.  The guarantee offer won hands down… by a margin of 4 to 1.

Don’t Assume… Test

What if we had just assumed people wanted an affordable deal?   We would have lost out on a lot of sales.  So many businesses make an assumption, present it to the public, and never try something different.  To use our beginning analogy, they take the test once and settle for those results.

If you have the power to improve the response rate of your message, getting more customers tomorrow than you did today, why wouldn’t you do this ‘religiously?’

Excuses, Excuses

Most will tell you, “I don’t have the time… or the know-how (or both) to do that.”  All the more reason to consider hiring a professional advertising agency who can improve your results 100%, 200%, even 300-400% over time.  Agencies like ours pay for themselves many times over.  Call us… we can help you set up a test for your website.  Ok, that is the end of our self-promotion… but it really did need to be said.
